Anxiety & Depression
Anxiety and low mood can affect many areas of life, from how you think and feel to your relationships, confidence and everyday experiences. Counselling provides a safe and supportive space to explore what you are experiencing, understand yourself more deeply and begin finding a way forward.

Understanding Anxiety & Depression
Anxiety and depression can affect people in very different ways. You may feel overwhelmed by worry, experience persistent low mood, lose confidence in yourself or find that things that once felt manageable have become more difficult. Sometimes there is a clear reason for how you are feeling; at other times, it may be harder to understand.
Counselling offers time and space to explore your experiences without judgement, helping you make sense of your thoughts, emotions and responses. You do not need to have everything worked out before seeking support.
When life becomes overwhelming
Anxiety is a natural response that everyone experiences at times, but when anxious thoughts or feelings become overwhelming they can begin to affect everyday life. You may find yourself constantly worrying, overthinking situations, avoiding things that feel difficult or struggling to switch off. Anxiety can also affect sleep, confidence, relationships and your ability to feel present.
Counselling can help you explore what may be contributing to your anxiety, recognise patterns in your thoughts and develop a greater understanding of yourself and your experiences.

Living with low mood
Depression is not simply feeling sad. It can affect motivation, energy, confidence and the way you see yourself and the world around you. You may feel disconnected, exhausted, hopeless or unsure why things feel so difficult. For some people, low mood develops after a particular event or period of change; for others, it may build gradually over time.
Counselling provides a confidential space to explore these feelings, understand your experiences and consider small, meaningful steps towards improved wellbeing.
How counselling can help
Counselling is not about being told what to do or having someone provide all the answers. Instead, it offers an opportunity to explore your experiences with someone who will listen, understand and work alongside you. Together, we can explore difficult thoughts and emotions, recognise patterns, identify your strengths and consider healthier ways of responding to challenges.
Our approach is collaborative and personalised, recognising that every person’s experience of anxiety and depression is different and that support should reflect your individual needs.

Our Approach
At Active Listening Therapies, we believe meaningful change begins when you feel genuinely heard and understood. We provide a compassionate and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at a pace that feels right for you. There is no expectation to have all the answers before you begin.
Our role is to listen carefully, understand your perspective and work alongside you as you develop greater awareness, confidence and understanding of what you need.
Taking the first step
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, especially when anxiety or low mood may already be making things feel difficult. You do not need to know exactly what you want to talk about or have everything figured out before getting in touch.
Whether you are looking for support with anxiety, depression or simply a sense that life no longer feels as manageable as it once did, we are happy to answer any questions and explore how we may be able to support you.
