Stress & Burnout
Stress and burnout can leave you feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and unable to switch off. Counselling offers a supportive space to explore what has been happening, understand the pressures you are carrying, and begin finding a healthier and more sustainable way forward.

Understanding Stress & Burnout
Stress is a natural response to pressure, and many people experience periods of increased stress at different times in life. Burnout can develop when those pressures continue for a long time without enough opportunity for rest, recovery, or support.
You may feel constantly on edge, emotionally drained, irritable, disconnected from others, or unable to keep up with everyday demands. Counselling provides time and space to explore what is contributing to your stress and how it is affecting your wellbeing, relationships, and daily life.
When life feels too demanding
Stress can affect far more than your mood. You may notice difficulties with sleep, concentration, motivation, patience, or decision-making. Some people feel guilty for not coping better, while others keep pushing themselves despite feeling exhausted.
Burnout often develops gradually, making it difficult to recognise until things begin to feel unmanageable. Counselling can help you step back from constant demands, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and begin to consider what needs to change in order to protect your wellbeing.

Work, Caring Responsibilities, and Everyday Pressure
Stress is not only linked to work. Caring responsibilities, parenting, family pressures, health concerns, financial worries, study commitments, and major life changes can all contribute to feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes several pressures build up at once, leaving little time for yourself. Counselling offers a confidential space to explore these demands, recognise the impact they are having on you, and consider ways of creating more balance, support, and emotional breathing space within your life.
How Counselling Can Help
Counselling is not about telling you to simply relax or think positively. It provides an opportunity to explore your experiences with someone who will listen carefully, understand your perspective, and work alongside you. Together, we can identify sources of pressure, explore boundaries, recognise your strengths, and consider practical and emotional ways of responding differently. Our approach is collaborative and tailored to your circumstances, recognising that stress and burnout affect each person in their own way.

Our Approach
At Active Listening Therapies, we believe recovery from stress and burnout begins with feeling heard and understood rather than judged. We provide a calm, compassionate, and confidential space where you can talk openly about what has been happening and the impact it is having on you.
There is no expectation to have everything figured out before you begin. Our role is to support you in developing greater awareness, understanding, and confidence as you consider what changes may help you move forward more sustainably.
Taking The First Steps
When you are already feeling overwhelmed, reaching out for support can feel like another task to manage. You do not need to wait until you are completely exhausted before seeking help, and you do not need to know exactly what you want to say.
Whether you are struggling with workplace stress, caring responsibilities, emotional exhaustion, or a general sense that life feels too demanding, we are happy to answer any questions and explore how we may be able to support you.
